The Lake County Clerk's office is the authority responsible for elections in our area. This information is provided only as a courtesy to Lake Bluff residents.
Who can register to vote?
To register to vote in Illinois, you must:
- Be a United States citizen,
- Be at least 18 years of age on or before the next election (17 year old residents may register and vote in primaries if 18th birthday occurs on or before date of the next general or consolidated election),
- Live in your election precinct at least 30 days immediately prior to an election,
- Not be convicted and in jail, and
- Not claim the right to vote anywhere else.
How do I register to vote or update my registration?
You can register to vote at least 28 days prior to an election by registering online or by mail, at a Secretary of State facility (for example, when renewing your driver's license), or at the Lake Bluff Library.
Even if it is within 28 days of an election, you can still register to vote up to and including election day ("Grace period registration") at specific locations.
In order to register, you will need to provide two acceptable forms of identification, and at least one form must show your current address.
When do I need to update my registration?
You need to re-register if you change your name or your home address.
Where do I view my voter registration, my polling place, or a sample ballot?
Lake County's Voter Power portal provides information about the status of your voter registration, your precinct and polling place assignment, and the choices available on your ballot.
How do I request or track a mail ballot?
You can request a mail ballot by looking up your registration in Lake County's Voter Power portal. Voter Power will also display the status of your returned mail ballot.
How do I participate in early voting?
Any Lake County voter can vote in-person at any Lake County early voting site (not just the closest site) prior to election day.
