Located only 35 miles north from downtown Chicago and in Lake County, Lake Bluff residents and business owners enjoy access to major interstate highways, accessible airports (O'Hare International Airport and Waukegan Executive Airport) and the Metra passenger rail system. Lake Bluff's two business parks benefit from the access provided at the intersection of two major State Routes, IL Rt 176 (Rockland Road) and IL Rt 43 (Waukegan Road).

Lake Bluff is located on Metra's Union Pacific North (UP-N) Line, which runs from Chicago to Kenosha, Wisconsin on a daily basis. Residents who are interested in purchasing tickets from Metra can do so online here. Select the Union Pacific North Line and chose between a One Way Ticket, a Ten Ride Ticket or a Monthly Pass. If residents are unable to pay online for a One Way Ticket, they are free to board the train and pay the conductor for a ticket directly.

Senior Transportation Options


Lake Bluff has options for seniors on the move!  These transport services are provided by the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Senior Citizens Foundation:

  • Senior Car: Operaters are available weekdays from 8:45 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. for your weekday appointments, errands, or visits.  Please call as soon as you know your schedule. Rides are $3 each way. A handy coupon for 10 rides can be purchased from the drivers or in Dickinson Hall. Tips are not accepted.
  • Taxi Vouchers: Subsidized taxi service is offered for residents age 65 and over who do not drive.  Trips must begin and end within the Lake Forest High School district. Riders present coupons worth $3 of fare, and pay the remainder.  Tips are not accepted. Sixteen coupons per 30-day period can be mailed to your home or purchased at Dickinson Hall.
  • Senior Bus: Weekly trips to local shopping centers and grocery stores are scheduled. The bus service is wheelchair accessible.
