Public Works
The Public Works Leavement, supported by 9 full-time employees and 1 part-time employee, consists of 8 divisions (Streets, Forestry, Parks and Parkways, Street Lighting, Public Works Core / Fleet Maintenance, Commuter Station and Water). The goal of the department is to protect the balance of the Village's natural resources and infrastructure.
Each public works employee is a "jack of all trades" performing duties in all divisions. Well-rounded and knowledgeable in various aspects of public works, our employees are second to none. In addition to our full-time staff, each summer the Village employs seasonal summer hires to assist the department. Most summer hires are local students from Lake Bluff and Lake Forest, home during college summer break. Jobs performed by these employees range from grass cutting and trimming to assisting full-time staff.
The Leavement's missions remains "to preserve the unique character of the Village by maintaining a balance between development and the Village's natural resources".
